The Three Valleys
Three sandy valleys between coral walls

The Three Valleys is dived from Corps de Garde, in Sainte-Luce. The site is in its name: coral walls separated by three sandy valleys, between ten and forty metres.
The alternation, and what it brings
A site made only of coral eventually tires the eye. Here you move from a coral head to a plain of sand, then to another head, three times over.
That alternation is not only pleasing: sand and coral do not shelter the same animals. The valleys are where the rays are, burying themselves, along with sand-dwelling fish you will never see on the reef.
Rays, in the sand
A ray settled in sand is nearly invisible: it covers itself with a flick of its fins and leaves only its eyes showing. You usually spot its outline rather than the animal, a shape a little too regular in the bottom.
Approached gently from the side, it stays. Flown over head-on, it goes.
