Anse Chaudière

A cove you can only reach from the sea

Anse Chaudière is number 60 in the register of Martinique sites, between the Tombant des Anses and Diamond Rock.

It is a secluded cove in Les Anses d’Arlet, reached only by boat or along the hiking trails. The water is calm and clear, and it looks like a natural swimming pool.

What seclusion changes underwater

A site with no road to it gets fewer people. Less trampling in the shallows, fewer anchors dropped anywhere, less of everything that damages a reef without anyone meaning to.

It is a rule that holds everywhere: for equal quality of bottom, the site that is hard to reach is in better condition than its neighbour served by a car park.

Going by boat is not a luxury

It is the only way to dive it with equipment. A tank and a jacket are not carried along a kilometre of footpath, and certainly not on the way back.

The boat brings something else, which matters more: it lets you choose the entry point on the morning itself, according to the day’s wind and swell. On a coast like this one, that is the difference between a good dive and a cancelled one.
