A wall at twenty metres, with seahorses and frogfish
Anse Dufour South is a wall dropping some twenty metres. Richly coloured, full of fish, and above all: seahorses and frogfish live here.
Two fish that barely swim
The seahorse and the frogfish share one thing: they do not flee. The first hooks its tail around a sea fan and lets itself sway; the second walks on its fins and waits, motionless, for prey to pass.
Neither leaves when you approach. That is why you can watch them for a long time, and also why divers swim straight past them: their defence is to look like the scenery.
How you find them
By slowing down. That is the whole secret. A diver moving at normal speed will never see a frogfish: you have to stop in front of a sponge and look at it three times rather than once.
Ask us to show you. Once someone has put your finger on one, your eye adjusts and you will find others by yourself.
