The Babodie Canyons
Canyons from fifteen to sixty metres, where the relief swallows you

The Babodie Canyons are dived from Saint-Pierre, in the north. The relief here is unlike any other of our sites.
The name is spelled three ways depending on the source: Babodie for us, Babodi in the register of Martinique sites, Babody in our diary. It is the same place.
Canyons, in the literal sense
These are not crevasses or simple gullies: they are huge canyons running from fifteen metres to over sixty. You drop in, and the relief swallows you.
It is a particular feeling, quite unlike a drop-off. On a wall you follow a face with open blue on one side. Here you are inside, between two walls, and the sky narrows to a band overhead.
The tops of the canyons, where it all happens
People always assume the life is at the bottom. Here it is the opposite: the tops of the canyons teem, and that is where you meet the big specimens, pelagics and assorted rays.
In other words, you can have a superb dive on this site without ever going deep. The floor of the canyons is spectacular, but it is not what feeds.
